History

In early 1952 a handful of Italian migrants who had come to make a new life in Wollongong decided that it would be a great idea to form a social club: a place where members could relax, enjoy each other's company and enjoy the benefits of their pooled resources. Their efforts were successful, and over the years their club grew bigger and attracted a constant flow of new members.
Today the Fraternity Club has become established as one of the leading and best appointed clubs in the Illawarra, a position about to be further strengthened by the plans to build a new entrance, a new gaming lounge and an alfresco restaurant. Our upstairs conference rooms and existing function and restaurant areas have been upgraded, offering the most comprehensive facilities in the region.

The club membership is still growing strongly and currently moving towards 11000 members. It is centrally located in the Illawarra Region, 2 Kilometres north of Wollongong in the beautiful beachside suburb of Fairy Meadow. The Club is close to shopping centres, clean well kept and patrolled beaches, and a short distance from all Federal, State and Local Public Utilities Offices.

The Fraternity Club is the multicultural club of the Illawarra. Whilst exhibiting an Italian flavour, it has a strong Australian membership content, ultimately resembling a mini League of Nations which is reflected in its membership and this creates a congenial continental atmosphere. We pride ourselves on our friendliness within the membership and the approach taken by staff towards guests.

The Club offers most known indoor sports including three fully serviced snooker tables, three bowling greens, and four bocce courts. We provide aerobic classes and bingo twice weekly, card playing tournaments are run regularly, and the club acts as a meeting place for a host of associations and sporting organizations. Live bands offer dancing music four nights per week.

Within the next financial year, turnover is estimated to be 15 million dollars. Members can be proud of and benefit from the exceptional catering facilities available, run entirely by the club in the downstairs Trattoria and the Monte Carlo restaurant upstairs. In fact, the Fraternity is generally known for its outstanding catering and superb quality Italian and Australian food. Additionally, its friendliness, and the absence of objectionable, disruptive, or threatening behavior on the premises make it a suitable place for the whole family - our Bambini children's disco is a fun and very safe place for parents to leave their children while enjoying other attractions of the club.
